LF capacitors . 10 000 mf 63v x2 and 15 000 mf 63v x4
« on: March 20, 2017, 06:36:05 PM »
If anyone has or can point me in the right direction. The Rotel I have bought needs to be recapped. Rather annoyed and don't want to spend a fortune as I've just spent R3200 buying this. Alternatively if anyone is interested in purchasing it at R2800.00 I'd let it go rather
Its a Rotel RB 985 with 4 of the 6 capacitors swollen.

Some pics of you don't mind, swollen ones?

Have you had a look at replacement capacitors from Mantech or Communica?

I have Rubicon 4700uF @ 63v in stock, but that won't help you.

Hi

Those prices are pretty good.
I think it this stage , I'm more keen to let it go than to repair.

before going to ebay for that and horrible customs issues and wait months id rather use RS , i have found them cheaper with these caps time and again:

just note the pin spacing on the rotel before ordering, , check the data sheets as linked and don't look at  their pictures or specs.

What brands are better to go for here? and what brands would be considered an upgrade?
I would prefer not to downgrade but at the same time I have budget to work with here, I'm not going to spend the purchase price of the amp on new capacitors either. What are those Elna capacitors like? I see that I can 8x RUBYCON 63V 15000UF for less than the equivalent for R600.00 but I'm not sure if these are as good?

I see the Rotel has a combination of Jamicon and Rubycon capacitors in it, I think Ill go for the Rubycon capacitors as I cant find the Jamicon capacitors.

Rubicon is a safe bet. They have been used by the hifi industry for decades.

As long as you stay away from "Nova" electrolytic, you should be fine. Other well known brands available locally are all fine AFAIK.

My Rotel has its balls back, but...
« Reply #12 on: May 08, 2017, 07:33:31 AM »
Sacrificing the centre channel , I managed to get 4 of these to fit.
http://www.mantech.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?Item=72M0114

The amp once again wears the pants in the relationship between it and my GS20's. Butt when removing the centre channel there were 2 grounds that run across all 3 amplifier boards , and grounding them is proving to be a challenge as I'm getting a buzz noise and a slight 50 hz hum. The amp goes into protection when the ground wire that runs across all the amplifier inputs isn't grounded.
Something for me to sort out next weekend.
