There opened a new Sennheiser experience store in Midrand where you can have a listen to the HE1

I'm definitely not going to go for a listen. I don't want to destroy the enjoyment of my current headphones.  :winkwink:   :BWAHAHAH:

No such problem for me ... while your and my kit may (or may not!) fail in absolute comparison it will absolutely triumph in relative comparison. I almost always find I enjoy my kit more after I heard some top end stuff ... some of those revelations were present in my system after all!

Those 'revelations' maybe actually be the tinnitus....  :BWAHAHAH:

How was the demo? What music choices were you provided?

Sorry been busy and forgot to give my impressions. I'll do a bigger write-up soon. For now, I'll just quickly give you guys some info. Welcome to ask more questions!

MiTech Direct:
The staff over are very friendly and helpful. The selection is great. Well worth a visit for any music enthusiast.

Sennheiser experience:
Great selection and demos available. They have all the higher end HD series ready for demo on the HDVA800 dac/amp. They also take special requests (opened a new HD599 for me) and stock replacement parts.

HE1 Source:
It's currently hooked up to a CD player using the DAC inside the HE1. You're welcome to bring your own CDs.
The HE1 has about all inputs you'd need (digital and optical) so I think you can bring whatever you'd like. I just listened to whatever CDs they had available.

HE1 Presentation:
It's in a quiet room. You have to put on silk gloves before being allowed to touch it. And yes, you get to see the party trick of switching it on and off.

HE1 sound:
In short, like nothing you have ever heard before. Flat and neutral with EXCELLENT extension. Soundstage and imaging were probably the biggest WOW factors to me.

Bonus:
So there is a South African that owns an HE1. Anyone guess who it is?
