Stock Corolla front speaker

Cut out the original with a dremel and used it to mount the much better Boston split system

Added some deadening

I used about 4 sheets in total. Did the doors (1.5 sheets each and the rear parcel tray. Did the outer skin and some of the inner closer to the speaker. Also the inside of the door pad and rear parcel shelf.

I replaced the paper cone 6x9's with 5.25in coaxials. Splits and sub running off a JBL 4ch amp.

The original head unit gave up so it was replaced with a Pioneer double din for USB, Bluetooth and DVD.

Huge difference in quality. Ran it off the headunit first and it was a night and day difference. Much better response throughout the frequency range.

Glad you starting with the speaker upgrade, get them mounted properly and do the deadening, some people say it isn't worth doing it on a non competition vehicle but it makes a difference even with the radio off  Also if you add an amp later you don't have to open up again.

My brother is enjoying it for sure, it was his xmas present. He just bought the headunit, the rest of the stuff I had lying around in my cupboards.

Thanks Gerlach - it was post xmas so it took 2 half days....was on holiday so the pace was relaxed  ;D

It's a hobby for me (which I need to spend more time on), nice feeling of accomplishment especially when other people complement the clarity.

Just got of the phone, he said that the JBL GT5-650C will work great.
Looks like good speakers as well.

The only thing is that He is charging me R1500 for it where all other places asks between R900 and R1000 for it.
He said he will only ask about R400 for the fitment.

What do you think?

If I were you, then I will go shop around a bit first. Makro stocks JBl to. Some of this audio car shops can rip you off if they pickup that you don't know a lot about car audio stuff or they running/using there name for pricing.
