What's on the tape? Now Playing
« on: March 01, 2017, 06:22:02 PM »
Thought this forum could also do with a now playing.  OK, so I haven't got an R2R (yet  :rubhands:) but I've moved the cassette deck (Nak BX300) to the bedroom and am now happily falling asleep to albums and compilations I haven't listened to in years.

On the deck at the moment:

Wheat - Hope and Adams (side one)
East River Pipe - Poor Fricky (side two)

Taped off a mate in the late 90s/early 2000s and sound as good today as then.

Let us know! Type (R2R/Cassette/ZX Microdrive cartridge/8 track) artist and album.....

A time and a season

1960s or close. Revox and the Moody Blues

1970s. Ampex, Klipschorns, Linda Ronstadt,an old chair. Progress, what progress?

1980s. No comment.

1980s. The last of Analogue or the death of music. Studer, almost at the end  and a rather important album for this country.

your Revox is threaded incorrectly. The tape goes between the headblock and the guide pin.

Maybe. I hardly ever use the G36 for replay as I seriously dislike its tape path. I prefer the Studer machines with their rolling guides.

The G36 was a consumer machine from a time tapes were cheap and plentiful, On the odd occasion this machine sees use ,it is bad enough to have the heads and stationary guides  scrape oxide of the playing surface of my old, fragile tapes so I am not going to have the back coating scraped of as well.Right or wrong-that is why it is threaded that way.

Nice! :) Time to 're-commision' my Tandberg and Nagra 4.2 and get mesmerised by blue VU's and modulometers. I have some interesting/colourful rtor tapes here of two pilots having a conversation and I think somewhere I have a live mono recording of Mireille Mathieu. Did she ever visit South Africa?

I once had a Tandberg 3500X with a "cross-field head".  At 3 3/4 i/s it certainly gave better results than the SONY it replaced, but I found the build quality not all that great and the audio quality varied between brands of tape

This is someone else's picture of the same deck.  I never had the reel clamps

Eva Cassidy on the A side.
Astrud Giberto on the B side.
