Hello all

I've given my brother a very nice pair of Genius? computer speakers which I only tried on my desktop once years ago. These speakers had to be used plugged into a powered subwoofer which was part of the kit I bought from Computermania.

The speakers are presently fitted with rca plugs and my bro's laptop has only one 3.5mm stereo speaker input.

Can one fit a single 3.5mm stereo jack/plug by cutting off the two rca plugs and solder on a 3.5mm stereo plug and 'merge' the 4 wires ie red to red and black to black. I don't think he will get stereo sound but just sound from two speakers.

His laptop also has a separate headphone jack which I assume takes a similar 3.5mm stereo plug. Will it also work if I replace rca speaker plugs with 2 male 3.5mm stereo plugs - one on each speaker and plug one speaker into the laptop's speaker input and the other into the laptop's headphone input?

Thks
