Best Albums of 2016
« on: December 20, 2016, 03:13:49 PM »
Please add three or four of yours to this list.  Link to youtube for a track or the full album if possible so that others can have a listen (yes, even to what I put up!).

I've mostly been buying second hand vinyl but have bought a few new bits and bobs so in no particular order I'll start with:

Medicine Boy - Kinda Like Electricity

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkjtKgYVo48

BCUC (Bantu Continua Uhuru Conciousness) - Our Truth

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbpwlHbvduk

Cavern of Anti-Matter - Void Beats/Invocation Trex

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab0aMWj1Oes (NB - this is probably the worst track of theirs but the only one I could find that is relatively new)

Avalanches - Wildflower

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjfspM5sDIA&index=3&list=PLP3c8-0bxDGpebxejnzAq0cU2bA0ncP-_

I won't post links because no one would bother to listen anyway :point:

In my personal favourite order

1. Megadeth - Dystopia (@ chrisc - worth a listen, no one riffs like Mustaine)
1. Testament - Brotherhood of the snake - Old school thrash like no other

(yea, torn between the two for top spot)

2. Epica - The holographic principle
3. Opeth - The Sorceress
4. Insomnium  - Winter's gate (just EPIC)
Whoever originally coined the word 'Lisp' and put an 'S' in it's spelling, is a Douchebag !!

My favorite is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CyX_OTblA0). The album has an unbelievable amount of energy and it's conceptually brilliant. KGATLW has become my favorite band and I'm looking forward to their 5 albums they will be releasing in 2017.

Runners up:

Fat White Family - Song for our Mothers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPMof2fObSI

Mild High Club - Skiptracing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDOEkGMtjt8

Soft Hair - Soft Hair
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZqsyBiYZFQ1zK4YIg4B-mJjDbHLQZNXx

Let me know if the links aren't working as my work blocks Youtube videos  :sulky:

The Fat White Family album ain't too bad at all.  A few more that lit my lemon (no youtube links sorry):

Moon Duo - Shadows of the Sun
Pixies - Head Carrier (80% Pixies is better than no Pixies at all)
Dwarfs of East Agouza (still trying to get a copy)
Idris Ackamour and the Pharoahs - We Are All Africans
Sakawa Boys - 2014 Anxiety

Only one 'reissue' that wasn't ever issued officially that is pretty much the most representative of all their music, their selves and sigils:

Coil - Backwards

Not saying it's their best though, that's still either 'Horse Rotorvator' or 'Love's Secret Domain' (to narrow it down a bit)

Fela's Zombie album is a classic from many years ago.  BCUC mine a similar vibe if not being as utterly genius as Fela (he was a bit of an arsehole by all accounts but his music..... :notworthy:)
