I bought some really nice industrial felt from Wright Seal and Plastics in Paarden Eiland, CT.

100% wool.  I got 6mm, but there are thicker options.

Gauteng upholsteres in Pritchard st have some of that felt. It is used in luxury vehicles

I took the advise and went dog blanket for so long.
I see you mention the word luxury ... Eish that means cost I bet...
But good to know ... When I do that serious build one day at least I will know where to try.

Will try and see what the costs are
Dog blanket worked out to about R100.00 for 150lt boxes and some left.
If affordable enough I will still like to replace it with the felt and see if it is better...
One thing I can say is with the felt over the wood if you knock it with your fingers for example , it does sound different to the blanket over that same wood panel... What that would do to how the speaker sound is what Ineould like to hear...
