Where to buy acoustic felt locally
« on: September 12, 2016, 10:23:28 PM »
Hi all.

Would like to try restore the SABC Philips 9710 monitor cabs.
I need some acoustic felt say( 60cm x 60cm x 10mm ) X 10 pcs.
Any idea where to find some ?
Jhb preferably , but nothing exotic as this goes inside the box

If this is for use inside the cabinet, then you can use dog blanket (underfelt) - works like a charm  ;)

Kind regards,
Ian.

But where would one get some good acoustic felt to use externally? I have read about one company that uses rabbit felt, same stuff as used in opera houses, etc, but where would one get something like this?

Thanks I've tried dog blanket in the past , but what I like about these felt mats , is that you can stick em nicely against the wood as they are more weighty so to speak and they do seem to deaden the wood more when you do a simple knock test etc...
If it's not easily available I will mast try dog blankets again...

Carpet underlay? Would be absorbent and looks like that.

I've got carpets in Durban (with underlay) seemed to be a thing back in the day

I mean the underlay here in SA and what I have seen used abroad is quite different.
