Lazertran waterslide decals for panels
« on: July 20, 2016, 10:34:58 AM »
Hi all

Here are some resources for using Lazertran. I get mine from Chemosol in JHB south. www.chemosol.com

Some examples and threads from the DIY studio group. The guitar pedal guys also use it and have some other techniques as well.

Having said that, I have switched to using laser printed stickers from my local print shop. They look nicer to me and are more consistent.

All those examples look very smart.  How are the stickers presented from your local print shop?  The one close to me, although seems to be fairly large, is clueless about laser labels

Clueless about laser labels from printshops up and down Main Road, Church Street W/Berg and Main Road Plumstead is an understatement.

Any printshop having a laser printer should be able to print your label art on your own waterslide film supplied. Printshops named as above including one in Rosmead Avenue have never heard of waterslide film.

As mentioned, I bought some waterslide film from Model Railroad in Plumstead but it is a different type to what I used for the Pye amp. It's also quite expensive compared to what I used before from JG Electronics.

My laser printer will print onto transparent film, but I suppose this is completely different from the stuff you are talking about?  Laser toner also dissolves with thinners based glue

These are some bad celphone pics of the laser printed front panel. I used to get Jetline to print onto the Lazertran for me.

Not sure what you mean 'presented' Chris? I give them a 600 dpi Photoshop image. The printer is a widebed Roland printer, so my minimum size is 1300 x 300mm, costs R150 for that size.

I sometimes also do an inket print onto white adhesive vinyl stock and then stick a sheet of clear vinyl adhesive stock over it to protect it. The second layer has a nice '3-D' effect and protects the inkjet print.

Hope that helps

If you have a laser printer, it will print on the type of waterslide film I used and according to Model Railroad, the film they sell is also printable with a laser printer. The film itself from both JG Electronics and Model Railroad is very similar to ordinary coated photo paper.

Furthermore, the laser-printed images I used from JG Electronics DO NOT dissolve with the automotive-type clearcoat/urethane lacquer I used.

Here is a pic of a label done with the inkjet printer. I have retouched it slightly, but it is very close to what it is in real life now colourwise.

The blurring along the lines is a result of my dodgy Photoshop skills, the black edges are actually very sharp
