I tend to favour a neutral response, like over-ears and close backs as I'm probably going to use them while the SO sleeps. Also, it is a major plus if it will run decently off a portable device, but not a complete deal breaker.
I saw the Philips A3 -Pro at DionWired for R1.5k and from what I could hear above the noise of the 'demo'ed' hifi in the background, they seem to fit the bill.
What other options are there in the sub R2k bracket?
