As scrarfussi says something is hinky with your adapter config in particular the Wireless.

What is contained in here?

/etc/network/interfaces

Hi scrarfussi, yes I installed the drivers. Maybe I missed something there.
@BWS :-) I have learnt quite a bit about Linux in the process so no harm in all of it. Just a few hours and burning eyes :-)

Anyway, I have decided on the direct approach i.e. connect straight to the router for now
