Does anyone know hoe inner and outer platters were/are made for turntables? Are they first cast and then machined?
The reason I ask is because of the small variances I have noticed with Thorens turntables, particularly the TD150.
I have had a few late model TD150 MkI's with the "Made in Germany by EMT under Swiss licence" badge on the armboard where the fit between the inner and the outer platter is much better than latter TD150 turntables. It would almost seem than inner and outer platter were matched pairs that were machined together...
The worst I have had was TD166MkII service item that came in that had 0.75mm 'play' between the inner and the outer...
