Thanks for that. Confirms my findings 100%:
1. I've lived this long already? Surprised myself there! Must be the beer then?
2. I've weighed more or less the same from when I started drinking beer in my teens!
3. My brain is sharp enough to watch that gif all day & never be distracted.
4. I'll keep drinking beer as long as it keeps cancer at bay. Fair deal? :)
5. Beer certainly hasn't given me a beer belly. See point 2 above.
6. Makes my bones stronger? Must be, the wife has never complained! :)
7. I've never had a kidney stone. #justsaying
8. Milk - cow mucous? Yuck. & what about those poor oranges being squeezed & pulped. Shame man!
9. No parkie or alzie here. What did you say again? Hold the glass still whilst I pour dammit!
10. Full of healthy vitamins & minerals you say? So what we were taight as kids was a lie? It should actually be "A beer a day keeps the doctor away"!

Happy that the more specialist beer brews are making their presence felt in SA. I got my beer education in Belgium and The Netherlands and we enjoyed drinking beer a lot more than wine, definitely a lot more beer culture than wine.

We've got an excellent local brewer here, Triggerfish, in Somerset West and I enjoy their ales a lot. Our Spar Tops just around the corner also has a wide selection of Belgian and Dutch beers, though expensive, are nice to enjoy from time to time. I've kind of sworn off the commercial beer offerings, they just taste awful and leave you feeling bloated.

Fruit juice is definitely far worse for you.

the Devils Peak range
Darling's BoneCrusher - Also used in my Chilli Con Carne recipe

Recently had a camping/hiking/micro-brewery trip through the Magaliesberg. Stopped off at Gilroys, Black Horse, Brauhaus Am Damme, and Chameleon Brewhouse.

Service at Brauhaus was appalling, but the rest were fantastic. Really good beer at each. If commercial stuff was anything like these, i would probably be a touch more broke  :dop:

My personal favourite is Weissbier, so Maisels Weisse is my preferred tipple.

Imported Weisse:
Maisels is number 1
Franziskaner is very nice
Steph Weiss is delicious.

Local Weisse:
CBC is good.
Brauhauss is good, just found it a little "light" for my taste. Agree the service is abysmal at the restaurant. (Took the wife & MIL there for Mothers Day :) :) )
Copperlake is yum.
Local Bru (from Chartwell) is excellent.
Swagga have an outstanding Weisse. In fact all their beer was lovely - Aces is brewed by them.
Copperlake was grand.
Chameleon is disgusting. Insipid with an aroma like dirty socks.

I highly recommend the Jozi Beer Tour - I won tickets via Mix FM & a friend & I did the tour January. Open top double decker bus. Starts at Copperlake, then to Brewhogs, then to Swagga (the beer & the hosts were the highlight of the tour for me, despite it being in the heart of Alrode) & then to Ubuntu Kraal in Soweto, home of Soweto Gold, which was a bit of a disappointment. Finally back to Copperlake. Be warned - use Uber or get someone to drop & collect you. There is unlimited beer on tap on the bus and at each venue.

Found the beer thread!

I'm also a big Weis beer fan. Found myself indulging in Steph Weiss a few times the last while.

@Trompie
Where do you get the Masels? I've never had it before.

It's only hifi people....

Our local Loco Liq has a fantastic selection of local & imported beers. I asked if they could get it, they made the enquiries & now make sure I get a case a week from them!

The German Club in Edenvale has it on tap too. :)

Imported Weiss
Paulaner Heffe, Kristall and Dunkell.
Erdinger Heffe, Kristall and Dunkel.

Local Weiss
Alstadt Weiss from Dryman's Breweries Silverton Pretoria. A personal favourite.

Also try the Dunkell Weiss for a completely different weiss experience.

All available at Makro Centurion - it does not help talking about beer and not sharing your shop...

My only problem with the Weiss beer is that its quite an expensive brew...about 3x more than my normal Windhoek draught. 😔

500ml Maisels is around R520 a case. Windhoek Draught in a tin is around R280 a case.

Incomparable. Unless one is drinking purely to get plastered? If you are imbibing to savour the nectar then Weiss is the only way to go! :)  ;)

Beer is not good for the environment. Its a waste of water. To get drunk you have to drink copious volumes of it. That's water wasted. In the process you waste more water by flushing the toilet eberytime you pee. Drink whiskey. It's the water of the gods
