Shut Down the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in GuangXi China
« on: June 03, 2015, 11:02:29 PM »
Just came across this on another forum I am on. As a dog and animal lover, I'm appealing to you guys to complete the survey and spread the word. If you guys would be so kind as to complete it, it took me no more than 30 seconds to so it.

https://www.change.org/p/mr-chen-wu-yulin-governor-please-shut-down-the-yulin-dog-meat-festival-in-guangxi-china

I never watched the video as I didn't want to see something that would break my heart.

Cheers

Perhaps the OP should repost the full link.

The link is no longer available. I understand the disgust of dog eating by dog lovers but what may be taboo to us may not necessarily be to others and what's not taboo to us may be taboo to others. Imagine what those cow worshipping religions feel about us calling ourselves a braai nation

The outrage is not so much about the fact that what we deem domestic pets are being eaten.

The outrage relates to the fact that the dogs are skinned alive. The cats are boiled alive. This because these folks belief system decrees that the more the animal suffers, the more adrenalin is pumped into the veins & thus the more "potent" the meat is for their strength & virility.

Carte Blanche aired a program on this around 10-15 years ago. Related to the same practice in Korea.

We organised a protest march to the Korean Embassy (then in) Groenkloof in Pretoria. Achieved nothing other than to appease our conscience because we had voiced our outrage to the Ambassador.
