Website access blocked on my phone.
« on: April 01, 2015, 02:30:12 PM »
I was in Germany earlier this week, I tried to log into the website via my phone as I have always done. I get the lovely message saying im banned from the forum and its not set to expire. I thought it was a block on certain ip addresses and got home this morning expecting it to work. No such luck, however my pc login still works? Whats going on here?

Windshear, it might be because of a blocked range of IP addresses. Please PM your IP address to Evan/BWS/myself and we'll check it out for you.

Unfortunately we suffer about 20-30 spam registrations per day and it has become necessary to do this.

We quite often block a range of IPs in this format:  123.456.*.* so you would probably be in one of the blocked ranges.

The phone goes through the same ip address as my pc when at home. So the one device works yet the mobile one doesn't.

Ok I cleared the cookies , browser history and whatever else I could find on the phone and now it works through my home network again.

Surfing via the tablet, I also wondered this morning what atrocities I may have committed that I have been permanently banned, without a hearing nogal. Will try the above.  The Mods almost received an invitation to the CCMA (Come Collect Money Always)  :point:

Yeah, the same thing has been happening to me. I can't access from my phone at all any more regardless of clearing history and cookies (whether i'm on 3G, 4G or through home wifi). I also get "Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum! This ban is not set to expire."

Thought a mod had a grudge against me   haha. I also cant access it with the updated opera through my home pc. Oddly I can access it with an older opera version.

Seems that with dynamic IP addresses, you might find yourself logging onto the site once with a IP in the banned range. This will then set a banned cookie for the site, thereby enforcing the ban on all further access regardless of future IP address.

When you find yourself in this situation, clear the avforums cookie (or all cookies, much easier) from the affected browser, and the cache just to be safe, and it might save your bacon. Not sure why it's not working for others....
It's not the size of the sub, it's where you place it.

Tried all of this. Have now reverted to using Firefox on the phone to browse avforums, but FF's handling of font sizes is screwy...
*edit* Don't ask why I don't rather use Chrome. Simple reason - I don't like it.

Downloaded Opera Mini for Android to test, it works fine for me. Will keep testing it from time to time and see if I can ascertain what IP address range is causing this.

Is Opera the problem browser?

Yup.

Seconded. I use it on my phone (android) and PC. Both have issues.

I tested it with the new Opera Mini and it stops loading after the header on some threads.

Settings -> Privacy -> Clear Cookies worked for me, also had the issue.

Ghostinthemachine was also having trouble gaining access via Opera mini on his cellphone this week.
