This a Pioneer PL-200 I got for free after the owner
couldn't get it to work and wanted to chuck it in the
rubbish.
My first impressions were that this poor turntable
must have been left in a garage for many years as it was
very filthy so I decided to give it a deep clean first.
When I stripped him bare I found a cockroach infestation
The lid was luckily scratch free but it was yellow
from tobacco smoke or standing in the sun I presume.
I expected to find lots of dust inside but I found
sand. So I think this poor chap must have been left
outside exposed to the elements for some time
If you zoom that pic you can actually see the cockraoch
eggs.
The top cover also had this yellow type of grid and grime.
So now it was time to give this old chap a bath
The cover I scrubbed every nook and crevice in a sunlight
liquid bath with a paintbrush and those little sponges
you use for dishwashing.
PC boards I aways dunk into a Sunlight liquid bath and
then rinse with water and let them dry out good. I never
do transformers with water for them I use turpentine.
So now it was time to get this guy back together. If you not
a very technical guy like me taking a lot of pictures of where
everything plugs in really helps. The cut function really
baffled me as I thought I broke the little wire spring but
the service manual I downloaded helped me quick.
Came out better out than I expected. This unit is as clean
as the day it left Tokyo.
The lids I don't do myself. I give them to a friend
who is a panelbeater and he sands and flats and polishes
them for me for a minimum fee.
