Group buy for some fibreglass / rockwool
« on: February 18, 2015, 03:11:19 PM »
Hi guys.. looks like there's quite a bit of interest in room treatments so I thought I'd put a feeler out there to see who all is interested so we can maybe try and organize some discount.

If the below are not your required  thickness then generally you can just dbl or triple it to get up to 100mm.

                                    insulpro   aeroinsul   egoli
uthermo 3 - 25mm   R 53.27      R 46.17      R 45.32
uthermo 6 - 25mm   R 79.36      R 68.40      R 68.12
uthermo 8 - 25mm   R 105.34   R 91.20      R 89.49

Then insulproducts also have a locally manufactured item called insulboard with the following prices per density:

40mm insulboard
80kg   R 78.83
100kg   R 98.58
120kg   R 118.31

Energylite batts from insulpro (which are apparently equivalent to Owens Corning 703/705)

energylite
47.5 - 25mm   R 61.92
64 - 25mm   R 80.79
96 - 25mm   R 110.50

All prices are per batt, including VAT but excluding delivery.

Feel free to paste your own prices/sources here and discuss.

PS. The lady from insulpro said if there's sufficient quantity then she can motivate a discount so lets see who is keen.

Honestly, to buy 25mm seems pointless, almost as expensive as the 50mm stuff and half as effective (I paid R99.85 per batt back in April for EL64)

EDIT: I think the big winner 'round here is the Uthermo 8 50mm for flat panels, the 3/6 also comes in 100mm and might be really cost effective for 'super chunk' traps...

That's a good price

I am assuming those will be suitable for both bass traps and double stacked for wall panels?

If one were to cut the 1200 x 600 in half and then half again one can use it as wedge floor to ceiling bass traps....now just to work out how many I will need then I am definitely in for a group buy

47.5 is quite lightweight , the reason im using it and 25mm is not to kill the room , Im using it behind around 65m2 of acoustic paneling.

You gents should contact Isover directly.  IIRC Last time if bought  I paid around R74/sheet of 25mm

I was told they dont make uthermo in springs anymore and instead are brought in from outside with 6 - 8 weeks lead time.

Anyone else also heard this?

Even if they import, they were doing it then too as they had furnace issues.

My mistake :faint: was not expecting that, still curious on the 50mm panels though, if they don't work out much cheaper than 2x 25mm batts then things must have gotten much more expensive in the last year.

My recollection is that increased density directly correlated increased pricing.
