Well I've learned something new today ::)

I didn't know that the orientation/position of a toroidal transformer with respect to the capacitor bank can introduce hum/buzz. I built two power supplies with 300VA 50-0-50V transformers. The one is dead quiet, the other has hum. With hum I mean coming through the speaker, not the transformer itself. I noticed that if I turn the transformer the hum increases or decreases. With the correct orientation the hum disappears!

This is what the PS looks like (just a test setup :)).

What can I do to eliminate hum completely irrespective of transformer orientation/positioning? If positioning is always important, what are the rules to follow? If someone would be so kind to share his knowledge ;)

Thanks.
