Now, maybee time to ponder a bit upon something important, that i cant recollect weŽve looked at earlier, at least not the last 30-40 minutes,, but this was released, on Elektra Records 1970, the front cover photo they did, not allowed to, when the clerk were othewise occupied they sneaked in an shot the picture.

Whatever, roadhouse blues is still one of the best songs ever.

Just some thoughts on an artist that I think has been a bit neglected, or sneered about, at least from the critics side.

Writing and recording some 200 own (or in colaborations) songs + some 100 covers and selling 33 million records some of us thought otherwise than the critics.

The major breakthrough came 1971 with Poems, prayers & promises.

First track on face B:

One good song indeed, to my ears at least.

Indeed... I became a fan of seeing the movie "Annie". John Denver died in his plane shortly before he was due to tour South Africa.

Actually, if shopping for Poems, prayers & promises dont go for the original first edition as "take me home country road" is heavily distorted but was shortly after recut and from then on sounds as it should, unfortunately all the american RCA editions have the same LSP-4499 designation.

On the other hand You will probably find the SA version RCA 38-363 released same year.

Another good song:

Was actually a no1 hit with Peter Paul and Mary 1970 but is JohnŽs song

Now to a strange record, released 1973, Bananamour from Kevin Ayers, this is not a record I recomend that You buy, but the cover is nice, could have come from Monty Python and this strange song is the most known from this record

Found a record the other week, on Discogs, had heard of it, not seen it or heard.

This is good, and fun, also kind of a historical document, this is Robert Zimmerman before he ,same year, (with "the frewheelin Bob Dylan") rocketed up to the superstar status he still holds, as can be gathered from cover front it is the guy and a guitarr, one microphone straight into the tape recorder, recorded, mastered and pressed in mono, so if You have a mono cart You will get quite some nice dynamics, works very well with a stereo cart too.

The back of the cover tells the amazing story about this record being made and released 2011, download pic and zoom in makes it readable.

Nothing to be found on Youtube or such from this record but this is the last track on face B recorded live two years earlier and sounding much the same, and a document of where he originated, what inspired (Arlo Guthrie) him and drove him towards what he became

I had a bootleg tape of Dylan from about the same time (either 62 or 63) many years ago.  Terrible audio quality but great performances (at cafes IIRC).  Might track this down (although I prefer his ‘Judas’ period)

Maybee a little look at one of the greatest female jazz voices ever?

Not American thou.

This is from 1964 and while You will not understand the lyrics I think YouŽll get the magic of the voice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF_NDRM3498

Some great American musicians traveled here just to record with Monica.

Also singing in other than Swedish

This record is, in original edition, Philips 08222 PL is rather sought after and fetches in Sweden some 3-5k ZAR, far more in the states, good record thou.

I enjoyed the movie about her (and the music) - can't remember the name of the movie. Seem to recall she was in a a travelling group with Arne Domnerus in the movie.

The film is called Monica Z, Edda Magnason who plays Monica Zetterlund in the movie is just not very "look alike" she also sings everything in the film, more or less just as good as the original.

What do You think about yet another Ry Cooder record?

He has recorded a few so i can keep up with this for a while, but this is new, released may 11 this year, (this once again in colaboration with his son Joachim Cooder) 8 songs old gospel classics treated with both reverence and attitude and his own three songs "Shrinking man", "Centrefication" and "Goodness and Woody" are as good as ever.

Look for this:

And listen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkQFhRBMfbU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In3A8IXBWlo

Title track in studio live

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEUIZWyieAk

Now You think IŽll ramble about "go find this record" or "You need this record" or something like that, wont do, dont think there is any need for that.

Maybee time to put on our travelling shoes again? A little trip to California where we 1972 find sailing ones?

The second album from Little feat, sailing shoes, is perhaps the most famous and also has, as track 5 on face a, willin, the root of it all, the song Lowell George wrote while still a member of The mothers of invention and the reason he quit that band, different stories about that but according to Lowell George also the reason, the foundation for forming the band.

Whatever, a very good song.

As it never, ever, rains in southern California, letŽs hang around for a while, go down to San Diego or out to Santa Monica, drinking beer in the sun never hurt anybody.

There is only 8 months of waiting for the next record, January 73 Dixy Chicken is released, title song is their signature and here we get the sound that became Little Feat, a lot more towards funk and R/B than the earlier tuff that was more country and roots, IŽm not shure i like this new sound better but a couple of really good songs here thou.

A most underrated band (sadly), even their late seventies output was pretty darn good.  The first four albums are fantastic (and I had to pull Sailing Shoes out for a listen last night because of the post).
