Re: Visit to Waldman Jordaan in St Helena Bay, 1st April 2017

A small contingent of the club visited Waldman and his wife Debora in St Helena Bay.  Waldman made us very welcome, we were able to listen to his 5 Volt single chip amp and a bit more listening to his Linn speakers.  Waldman provided us with a braai, kebabs, wors and salad.

On the way.  It is about 140km from Cape Town all told and the trip took about 100 minutes each way

Some truly awe-inspiring aesthetics, music that ranged from Mahler to Modern and sound quality that was visceral and, er, vivid: around 15 guests spent a memorable couple of hours at Achim's Loft. It's a perspective-changing experience and a rare privilege to be able to encounter the likes of flagship models from Clearaudio turntables, Avantgarde horns and Gryphon amplification in surroundings that to a large extent do them justice.
On a personal level, Although the massive Avantgarde Trio/basshorn combination provides an almost other-worldly realism, at a more real-world price level those Martion Bullfrogs remain a favourite.
The unusual skeletal design from Eden Acoustics was a talking point, with enviable midrange clarity and room-filling ability perhaps not quite matched, in this setup, by a sufficiently solid bass region.
Thanks to our genial host Achim for hosting our visit in typical relaxed vibe.
