Hi all..

Decided to start a new thread with appropriate headings incase someone search for such a topic.

So after a lot of procrastination , I made a move .. Lol.
For background , let me just post the links to two associated previous threads.

This was to intro the TT + some background and pics.,26451.0.html

I then found a second hand used one ( thx to Matt and got a plinth for it)..
Tested it and the motor made a squeaking sound...

Then got the service manual and asked the guys what oils / greases to get

Now , I have managed to open the motor of the spare TT I got
Here is some pics ..
If a Good Samaritan could please download and expand them ( tx in advance).

See how that part where the motor "spindle" is on can lift up
That entire silver core thingy is one piece.

Now the question is where exactly to clean and lubricate..?

Oh , one or two tips
Mark the sides of the two halves with a permanent marker before opening the two halves.
This will help when putting it back together again to align the halves.
One thing I noticed is that the core piece of the motor ( spindle thingy ) have vertical play , so it will obviously be wise to see how much play it must have before opening the motor and perhaps also make horizontal markings to ensure when you put the halves back together that you don't push it in too far or too little...
Sorry I don't know what to call that core spindle thingy which is the part that actually spins..

Here are some pics on how I got the motor apart .. Easily and seemed safe
Just loosen the two nuts on top of the motor housing holding the long screws

Make the markings to help with re aligning later..
At this point I would make horizontal markings as well and check the vertical play of the motor for later when reassembling.

Use two flat drivers and don't put them in deep or force to hard and a piece of wood and force it open.

I have a 1219, that is similar.

The barrel of the motor that rotates is the rotor.
Clean its shafts, and the top and bottom bronze bushes that the shafts pass through, BUT clean them only with a dry cloth, or one barely damp with alcohol. Use no liquid solvent to wash the bushes as it will damage them and resuscitating them is a mission.
Unless you want to buy exotic special purpose oil, pink automatic transmission fluid is good for bronze bearings. If there is a felt washer around the bush, add a few drops of ATF to that, to soak in.

The stepped pulley on the motor shaft can be removed and/or its height adjusted, so the vertical position of the motor shaft is not critical.
The snubber capacitor across the motor switch (which may be physically hidden inside the switch) probably needs to be replaced. They go short circuit and then the motor will not switch off.

The main automatic cam is probably going to need cleaning. The grease on it will be gooey and jam the mechanism.
The sliding plate that lifts the pin to lift the tone arm must NOT be lubricated, or the automatic stop does not work. Those two friction surfaces must be clean and dry... friction is essential.

Just trying to confirm again.
Step by step if you don't mind.

So in the attached pic.
Am I understanding correct to say I must place a drop of sewing machine oil in that centre piece ?
I circled it with a red circle in the pic..
Is that the bearing there , which the manual suggested should be oiled after time ?

Bear in mind this is the older spare motor I pulled apart..
The one I really need to do has never been used , but made a grinding sound when I switched it in to test...

Yes, that's the right place.
There must be another almost identical bronze bush at the other end of the rotor; same treatment.

So a drop or two of sewing machine oil should be ok then ?

I see the other side's bearing as well ... In the below pic , it must be the bottom circle where the rotor shaft goes through the casing....
