OK thought I would see what can be done with a regular black Planar 3.
Laminated solid cherry with a thin strip of Imbuia, which was sprayed about 16 coats of clear gloss(cant really see the gloss on the photos). Boxed a piece of 22mm MDF with this lamination. Covered the bottom of the Rega plinth with Dynamat Extreme, and the top with a piece of uncorrected brown leather.
The Rega plinth is resting on this new base via 4 Vibrapods.
Stuck 4 pieces of Dynamat under the new plinth and the whole contraption is resting on 4 Vibrapod cones.
No I dont know what it sounds like because I am currently without an amp.
Next phase will be a replacement for the glass platter and to put the motor in a pod resting on 1 Vibrapod on the bottom plinth, in that way disconnecting it from the plinth housing the platter and tonearm.
Is this the first Leather covered TT? I have not seen any up to now, and the smell of leather when you open the lid is divine).  ;)
