What are these speakers? Local?
« on: October 03, 2013, 01:54:35 PM »
A friend of mine is trying to sell me these.

He thinks they were ARD (Acoustic Research Design) any idea what they're worth (if working) or any other details? Funny looking things.

According to a Gumtree ad in PE, they are ARD Concorde speakers. If that is true, there is nothing on the web about them.

Hmmm, they look better in black. Some more ARD's here http://www.gumtree.co.za/cp-speakers-in-east-london/ard-speakers-for-sale-528363371

Were they a local company?

Seems the Family_Dog had/has a pair: http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,14813.0/nowap.html

Because I thought they were local. Apparently made in East London.

Sorry for pulling this up again but I am interested in the driver compliment. Is it an open-baffle type arrangement?

So I only see this now, referenced by the JRA speaker thread.

No, they are not open baffle. Seem to have a rear facing woofer and front facing midrange & tweeter, bit difficult to see through the black cloth grill material. I need to open these up and see what is happening, I got them with the Sony ES range and I think the previous owners may have popped something. When they switched the Sony on to demonstrate the system to me there was an almighty "POP" as they had the volume set rather loud. The speakers do work but something is not right.
