Don't want to get into a discussion about cable quality and I do apologize if this has been discussed before.

I just have a question regarding digital cables for S/PDIF connections.

So staying away from a discussion on actual cable quality - the way I understand it digital cable is fundamentally different from normal audio cable. So what differences would one expect to hear using dedicated digital cable as compared to normal audio interconnect if any?

I know the signal is digital and 1's and 0's should be transmitted but in my experience even in the digital world a poorly constructed or incorrect cable can result in data drop out which may not affect the bigger picture but does affect it. This can sometimes be avoided by using verification systems in the data that confirm that all the data has been transmitted but this doesn't occur in audio as far as I know?
