Its a bit controversial but I think there is a place for it.

Say you get a 40 year old drive that has spent so much time in the sun and elements that the cone is a cardboard color and not black anymore.

Would you dope it to restore the colour and some stiffness? Surely you just replacing some of what was lost.

(proposed dome is a thinned wood glue with black dye.)
