"Mini" - SonoSubs
« on: May 15, 2013, 11:24:15 AM »
For those who haven't seen Timber_MG's build thread:  http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,23974.0.html

He's going to build some nice big SonoSubs, and because the temptation was too much, I am joining him in building smaller version of the sonosubs.

They're by no means small though :)

We let the guys cut them for us, but they were cut very poorly, so last night we leveled the surfaces, to ensure better assembly:

Hmmm, paper pulp and dodgy electrical connections... what can possibly go wrong? :EGrin:

Thankfully those chocolate blocks are low voltage circuits, limit switches and the like. Anything carrying anything of danger is in double insulated trailing cable. This quick setup went though those 6 core sections quite quickly.

Agreed! We need more info! Where are the graphs, pics of the drivers, amps, toys etc.... I need to live vicariously through people at the moment....

The sonotubes are 400mm long x 608 ID (+26 for OD)
This gives you roughly 116 litres. Any losses/gains in volume can be ignored as it will be too little to really make a difference to the resulting response.

If need be, I can always up the drivers to 18" later, as the tube diameter is more than enough.

This will be driven by behringer EP2500.
I'll be driving two subs from it, if necessary I'll drive each with it's own amp bridged(but don't think the drives will handle that).

Yellow is a sub without EQ, green the same one with some EQ applied.

As you can see from the WinISD image, I'll be using Targa 15" streetseries+ drivers, I've already bought them, and they're eagerly awaiting their enclosures.

The drivers look like this, without the plastic ring around the basket:

The plastic ring can be seen here(not the same drivers, although very similar):

I'll be doing the same finish as on my PC Speakers for the tubes, and for the end caps, I'll be spraying that with a matt black:

Awesome! That's better.... :-D Thanks!

How did you go about doing that finish on your PC speakers, it looks excellent! Also, How do you intend to cap these tubes?

I'm be using my AVR to EQ, but hopefully wont need much when they play together :)
