Anybody ever tasted Boplaas' whisky? I heard tell that their 6 YO is something of a bargain at <R500 ea. In their Calitzdorp shop, that is.

Have had all the releases currently on their site and a few others as well.  The only one that impresses is their cheapie (the R300 brandy cask finish).

Currently loving my latest bottle opened too much (a single cask Marsala finish Ledaig) and now must find some more on the auctions.   :'(

I decided to give the Boplaas whisky a miss and settled for their 2016 vintage Port. That I will enjoy it is a sure thing based on previous encounters with their ports.

Gentlemen, did anyone manage to get the Three Ships Masters Collection Double Wood? If so I would love to hear your thoughts? I didn't manage to get to the online sale, site kept bombing out..

Last week Thursday, we did an online session with Andy Watts and Marc Pendulbury where we did the following Three Ships line up:

1. 12yr Double Wood (49.6%)
2. 7yo WB Moscato Cask (55.1%)
3. 11yr WB Oloroso cask (57.8%)
4. 8yo WB Bourbon cask (69.8%)
5. 9yo WB PX Cask (63.7%)

The double wood was weakest of the lot for me. First time I tired it. I do enjoy the smoky, dusty notes but it's lacking something. It hints of something waiting there but it doesn't quite get there. Maybe I need to spend more time with it. This was the only blend in the line up.

The best two for me were items 2 and 5 on that list above. Note that number 2 to 5 are all WhiskyBrother exclusives.

I'm not a Scottish Whiskey lover but I do like a good Kentucky Bourbon on occasion.

I was gifted a bottle of Buffalo Trace when my Mother in Law returned from a visit to her sister who lives outside Lexington, Kentucky.
Good stuff. Slightly less sweet than Jack Daniels and pretty smooth.

Any suggestions for good locally available Kentucky Bourbon. I'm not a Jim Beam fan but I love Jack Daniels single barrel, more so than Gentleman Jack.

You should be able to find Woodford, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek and Blanton around.

Thanks.
Ordered a bottle of Woodford through Takealot.

Can't say I have much knowledge about Bourbon, but I do know I prefer Jack Daniels to Jim Bean from what I have bought locally.

Yes Heine, I'm sure you'll like the Woodford's.

Personally, I prefer Single Malt whiskies, or a good blend, but out of the Bourbons I have tried, both J B and J D were forgettable to me.
More complex are that B T, the ones GEG mentioned, Wild Turkey 101 and Bulleit.

Woodford's though, is my fave among the ones I've had.

Incidentally, I recently saw a rating where Evan Williams No 1 did surprisingly well, being priced similar to Jim Beam White. I bought a bottle, but haven't gotten to it yet.

My wife recently gifted me this, I have found it to be quite delightful.

As I have an expensive wine habit and rather partial to audio, I have generally chosen to not develop a whisky habit (which I rather like).

Nice one, also have that one in my sample list for this year. I've gone the other way, given up wine to spend a bit more money on buying nicer whisky. Most recent one was a Tamdhu 12 year old malt, which I enjoyed for a Speyside malt.

Was presented with the opportunity to order one of these by a friend whose SiL was placing an advance offer. R700. Available only towards the end of April this year. Can scarcely wait.

I'm fortunate or unfortunate enough to live around the corner from Norman Goodfellows. I've been thoroughly enjoying sampling whiskeys or whiskies I've not had the opportunity to have previously. The one that I enjoyed the most in the last 2 years or so has been the Bushmills 16 year old https://bushmills.com/whiskeys/16-year/

NGF has a wonderful selection.

Thanks for this. Added to list

Speyside's are my favourite
