Apparently the Port Cask finish ain't too bad, but I'd say the others are priced about right at just below R300...

I was actually so impressed by the classic single malt that I want to try all the renditions. So I'll start with the port and go on to the chardonnay

Does anybody have any news about https://bottlestore.co.za/aisle/whisky/ ?
I can hardly believe my eyes when the site showed they have no Glenfiddich.
I see Checkers Liquor shop has some whiskies that look like good buys to me.
Like Glenfiddich 15 YO @ R729,99 - what bothers me is that they describe it as a blend whereas I always had it that Glenfiddich is a single malt.

Any suggestions for a peaty whisky at around R300 - 400?

Have you tried Laphroaig Select?

Hi
I think the Laphroaig Select is "not nice". The 10yo is one of my favourites.
For that budget I'd go for (blended) Famous Grouse Smoky Black.
Off topic - Jack Daniels Rye is fantastic! And that's from an "experienced" single malt drinker.

I remember having had a Laphroaig some ten years or more ago, but that was still very early in my whisky experience - that is why I could remember the name after all this time. I can anyway not remember how I liked it nor whether it was a Select or otherwise. Shall have to have a closer look, I mean taste, soon.

+1 for Famous Grouse, maybe try "Black Bottle".  Not to much peat, but I quite like it

If you want peat at R400, you can do a lot worse than Laphroaig Select.  Yes it's a bit watered and a bit weaker, but it's probably the best peat you'll find in the price point.

Bought a bottle or 2 of these and is a very nice single malt for the price.

I tasted a delicious peat Whisky at the Whisky shop in Dullstroom pre lockdown called "Big Peat."

The price as far as I can remember is around R600.
