Any recommendable custom transformer winders?
« on: September 08, 2012, 11:46:21 PM »
Hi all
Recommend can anyone a 'nice' company that will make me a one-off transformer?
I need 4 x 31.5V + 4 x 12V at around 600VA
I could get it from several ready-made transformers, but nice it would be to have all voltages from only one transformer.
I have no clue what such a thing will cost - maybe it will be preposterously expensive.
E-I is quite fine, I don't have to have toroidal.

Any wise words?

Peter Souris... The only place in Joburg!

Google for their contact details.

Otherwise - Toroid Technologies. Their prices are not too bad and the craftmanship is "spitz klasse".

These guys winded one-of E-I core ESL audio and pwr-supply trafos for me as per spec given.
No wining, no complaining, no excuses, no uuhs-oohs, all correct rocket-science applied. 10KV insulation, been working like a charm ever since. All done and collected within 2 weeks.

I've always used Souris, but they are certainly not "email" people!! Their quality is good. I have never tried Andrews, might give it a whirl one of these days.

Sounds like several people can do it, thanks for the inputs.
It's for my mosfet amp, that currently works in proto form off several trannies, but when it's boxed up neatly, I want one-trannie-to-bind-them-all.

I had a toroidal wound by Swift Heat and control. They don't mind small one-off jobs at all and the fellow was very helpful. All done on e-mail and EFT and 2 days later the transfo was delivered to my door at no charge. It was a 400VA and cost me R577.

Wow, thanks for that!! 2 Days?!?! That's incredible. I'll definitely try these guys going forward.

Ah, that's interesting. Toroid Tech has never, ever delivered in 2 days. I wondered about the coincidence that there was also a 'Jan' there.

I presume these people all do the maths for us, so all I need do is tell them the max current draw on each winding & they will figure out things like wire cross-section & optimum core size?

Now that I find it's so easy & inexpensive, I'm having grander & wider-reaching ideas!
