Yes I attended opening night, and saw Yellowjackets & Larry Carlton. Will elaborate a bit when I'm on my laptop again.

I will refrain from giving my honest opinion re the CT jazz festival (I have done so a couple of years ago already) . I will definitely not be attending this one.

For the Funky buts on the East Coast - Lee Ritenour & Spyro Gyra is scheduled to preform in DBN on March 12th. I would strongly suggest to anyone who has the means of attending to do so. I can assure you'll be blown away and will be in for a treat of note ! (unfortunately I won't make it)

Hi morning ! Did anyone attend the Jazz on the Rocks at Tieties Bay ? How was the Jay Beckenstein performance ? I saw him a few years ago with SG band in Witbank of all places - Mpumalanga Arts & Culture Festival I think. He stunned the crowd by playing a soprano & alto sax, both at the same time, and proper notes and melody ! A memorable moment of true artistry indeed !

Sadly, most of the crowd were not even paying attention to the performance and were too busy drinking and talking, with a droaning sound just buzzing in the stadium.  :sulky:

My reason for avoiding these hyped-up social gatherings....sold under the banner of jazz.

Hi Capies !
I had the privilege of seeing Tina Schouw and her band on Friday night at The Rockwell. They did the Billy Holiday life story. Absolutely mesmerizing and outstanding performance - smoking, smoldering and out of the top draw! From what I saw & heard on Friday, Tina has to be the premier Jazz songstress in Southern Africa. People rave about Lira, Sibongile, Judith, but if you ask me, I'll put my money on Tina any day !

Credit to Gavin Minter, Andrew Lilly, Heinrich Goosen & Wayne Rustin (I think).

Nadfan, have to agree. She deserves more credit. Leonard knew her very well and worked with when she was younger. Leonard introduced me to her a few years ago and while they were chatting in walked Danilo Perez. I stood in awe as they got chatting, a night I will never forget. He signed my t-shirt which I still have to this day.

So i've never heard of her...
The few demos I checked, led me to get her: Winds Call, album.

I agree... high calibre jazz artist she is...
Keep the recommendations coming...  :rubhands:

You guys in Gauteng are so lucky! Diane Schuur and Steve Tyrell, both Grammy winners coming in September. Hope they sing "By Design", an old Cape Town favorite.

Jazz lovers are in for a treat, go buy your tickets already!

I have tickets to Monte Casino for the duo. Steve Tyrell and Diane Schuur live in Johannesburg, Monte Casion. 9th September...!
Looking forward to the performance - great producer. Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville, to Rod Stewart and Diana Ross all had hits produced by Steve.

Interesting what Wiki says: - Diane Schuur (born December 10, 1953 in Tacoma, Washington) is an American jazz singer and pianist. Nicknamed "Deedles", she has won two Grammy Awards, headlined many of the world's most prestigious music venues, including Carnegie Hall and The White House and has toured the world performing with such greats as Quincy Jones, Stan Getz, B. B. King, Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Ray Charles, Joe Williams and Stevie Wonder. Like Stevie Wonder, Schuur was blinded at birth due to retinopathy of prematurity.
