I have been investigating the possibility of making a run of kits involving the forum and perhaps distribute it through Alex (Audio SA). It would be a 2x5? based on the Jaco?s ?groovalizer? from Fest using a great tweeter and have decent LF output too, probably even using an elliptical cab. If one tweaks the value in such a kit one could probably let it out for around R2k5 including a cabinet (perhaps a flat-pack, depending on what is possible), leaving the DIYer to assemble the crossover, mount the drivers and test the thing to make sure everything is working fine. One evening?s work per pair, even for the un-initiated, probably an entire HT for those who know how to hold a soldering iron.
To simplify support on such a kit one might create a kit sub-forum. That way Alex and myself wouldn?t have to explain many things many times over and end-users would learn more about their kits in the process. It would of course also be accompanied by a detailed construction manual/CD.
