Headphone Suggestion - iPhone playing FLAC
« on: May 09, 2012, 03:01:07 PM »
I'm looking for suggestions on a good quality headphone for listening to FLAC's on the iPhone. Something in the line of

Sennheiser PX 210
AKG K 495 NC
etc.

Price not to sure yet so say 1,000 - 3,000 (not SA prices  ;D) and must come standard with a 3.5mm connection

Also anyone with BlueTooth headphone experience like the Sennheiser PX 210BT. Is it the same as the wired equivalent or worse? If so by how much as I would prefer wireless if possible (no cable debate then  :sh1tstirrer:)

for use in private or public?

Sound leak is an issue. If I take my Grado SR225i's onto a plane I will be thrown off the second Mark Knopfler plays the first note.

Just as a matter of interest, does an iPhone really allow you to play FLAC files? If so, that's quite a departure for Apple. iDevices could never handle FLAC or anything besides WAVs, MP3s and proprietary Apple formats before.

closed back, and for use with portable devices? immediate contenders include b&w p5, the new p3, monster beats studio, and perhaps the bose oe2 (this a biggish maybe). the beats and bose you can hear at most large incredible connections (i know cresta has both hooked up for demo on their rubbish systems)

Thank you cj. Does anyone have experience with bluetooth headphones? Somehow the wireless thing appeals to me as long as it is not a loss of quality.

I love the look of the B&W P5's. The new P3's will be even more portable. So my money is on either of those.

Even though I wear my Sennheiser in-ears to gym, I refuse to wear these for casual listening. I hate having something in my ear and as a matter of fact there is not a lot more space as my bank is already scr&^%ing me through the ears ....  :BWAHAHAH:

I have always wondered whether bluetooth wireless will have an affect on the iphone/ipod battery life. Of course the phones themselves are battery powered but does the transmitter pull power from the phone/ipod battery to transmit the signal?  Must admit I have never researched this.
