RUDY'S RARE RECORDS starring Lenny Henry, with Joe Jacobs, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Larrington Walker.

written by Danny Robins and Dan Tetsell

New comedy for BBC Radio 4

Handsworth, Birmingham - a Jamaican/Indian/Caucasian hodge-podge-part of town. It's home to a video shop, an off licence, an Indian newsagent, Indian restaurant, Indian minicab office, Lidl supermarket, two rough pubs, a Caribbean caf?, a Chinese restaurant and a betting shop. Right by the betting shop is Rudy's Rare Records: owned by Rudy Sharpe (Larrington Walker) and run reluctantly by his long-suffering, classical-music loving son Adam. (Lenny Henry)

The sign above the counter says : RUDY'S RARE RECORDS:Jamaica to UK: 'If we don't have it - them don't mek it'

Since Rudy's apparent heart-attack, Adam has abandoned his middle class muesli-and-tofu life in London. He's now trapped in the confines of this dingy old record shop, sharing the miniscule flat upstairs with his dad and his 17 year old son, Richie (Joe Jacobs).

His day is filled with the thump of vinyl, the clatter of CDs, the tinny whine of earphones from the listening booth, the KLAK-A-BOOM of dominoes being slapped down on the table in the backroom and the sounds of Prince Buster, Ludacris and even the Cheeky Girls, if Rudy's had one too many. (?Classical Music is for wimps?.)
