avforums needs a software update
« on: Yesterday at 04:20:15 PM »
The forum really needs to have a better software platform. This open source stuff from Simple Machines is lagging far behind the curve for where forum software is at these days. I run my photography forum on Invision and it's magnificent in what it can do.

It really is archaic .....
I get an email notification about a new post in "for sale" two days after it was posted.

I suggested Discourse a few years back and it looked like we might move in that direction, but it's up to the man that foots the bill.

How big is the software bill? I for one would be prepared to part sponsor as a commercial member and am sure I am not alone.

Is that the one that MyBroadband use?  Ok, but a bit strange with new messages.  At least Small Machines Forum s/ware is free.  I think the many add-ons interfere with proper operation.
Even duct tape can’t fix stupid… but it can muffle the sound

The software is free, but the hosting and bandwidth isn't.  I've no idea what it costs at present.

There are actually very few installed.  Turning Like off didn't make any differences and there are no error logs indicating an issue.
