I would like to explore using autoformers to match HF levels in my crossover designs. Ideally I want to buy in wall volume controls and use these for their autoformers.

Here is what I have gleaned, but embarrassingly I have almost no understanding.

1. Autoformers modify impedance and should therefore be placed before the network. Correct?

2. Assuming 1. Is correct, would it not be better to (assuming a static attenuation point), place after the crossover, but take the ration into account when selecting crossover components?

3. Autoformers have inductance. How does this affect the HF cut, or because they are in parallel with the load is this actually a HP filter?

4. If my assumption that this is an inductance in parallel is correct, should one not place a cap in series before the autoformer?

Hoping a clever person can answer.
