There is another thread started by Family dog showing that LP sales out numbered CD sales again in the last year (as they have for the last few) I stand to be corrected… Many years ago I remember when CD’s first came into the market the price of a CD player was about R250 (is what my dad paid for his IIRC), and then already after about a year the value my parents Cd collection (& that of their friends) all far superseded the value of the actual disc player …the same is evident in todays LP collections I for one am heavily invested into mine, I’m sitting at 552 total I think with about just under half being “new” records. I do not consider myself “not young”, on many occasions I have purchased new records and only opened them sometimes 2 years later (this is still the case, I probably have 50 new sealed unopened records waiting for the opportunity to experience them some waiting said 2 years above) If you go to the joburg vinyl fair at pirates you see many many MANY “not old” peões buying records (in many cases without turntables, but buying them for the tactile experience of opening them, gatefolded artwork, the small details, not dissimilar to opening and reading an actual boon VS reading one on an IPAD) CD’s will never be for me again. I either stream digitally or listen on LP. But I suppose that’s what makes the world go round.
