Nope, I didn't test the wrong amp. I repeated the same test with the other amp, just a speaker connected no inputs, no bad noises. Damn! Kinda stymied now... I can't possibly return the amps and say "one runs hotter than the other, oh and it uses a few watts more power at idle too" they'll just tell me it's normal, probably charge me for shipping costs as well or something. But I also can't possibly use the amps, honestly the noise that came out of my speakers made me worry I'd blown up my speakers. Ran out of things to test. My speakers are still working fine on another amp. My source is still working fine on another amp. One amp runs hotter than the other. One amp uses more power at idle than the other. I've boxed them up again and hidden them away in a dark corner. I don't want to sell them, I couldn't do that to someone. Jozua_2019 suggested that I have them repaired by the agents, I think that's what I must do. I really don't want to spend money on brand new amps though, but I think it's the right path to take. Edit: I've filled out a request for support on the audiolab website explaining the issues I've had and the testing I've done, let's see what comes of it.
