I have a C545BEE with a similar (but perhaps not identical) problem: Whenever I load a new CD, it would say "disc error" most of the time. If you get past that, it works perfectly I traced the fault to a "switch" - one of those 2 flat bits of copper which are forced to touch each other by some movement in the mechanism. This was the switch to tell when the laser has returned to the starting position (centre of disk). Only then would it spin up and try to read the TOC. This switch did not make proper contact and so often the machine would time out and decide that the laser could not return to the center for whatever reason, and register a fault. At first I cleaned the switch etc, would work a little while and then the same. By some stroke of luck I found the exact switch on eBay and ordered it. That lasted a while, not many months, until it started acting up again. My permanent fix has been to tap 2 wires from that switch to outside the player and connect it to a micro push-button switch. So now when I load a new CD i wait 2 seconds and then press that switch momentarily. No more issues. Not ideal but it keeps working for years now.
