I had some time to do some further testing on these mono blocks : Tried them with the Pathos Classic Remix’s valve stage into the Kinki Studios, with their internal dac, via van den Hul RCA, single ended interconnects to the two power amps. Sources were my Meridian 500 transport and my Juli@ soundcard/JRiver. With valves in the mix, the sound fills out more - Diana Krall’s voice on an obscure recording of ‘Dream A Little Dream’, still close miked, has oodles of breathiness, good control of sibilance, all her little inflections she controls with her mouth and breathing, etc are all meaty, weighty and still delicious to hear. I think I have the first version of the HDac in my amp, waiting on confirmation from @Air . The latest version has the ESS Sabre 9018K2M Mk II in it. This combination gets a little closer to Denafrips Aries MkII in presentation. It’s also softer in volume : the old 6dB difference between XLR balanced clearly heard here, compared to the Meridian set up.
