Is there a possibility that our strive towards accuracy is actually counterproductive to musical engagement/enjoyment?

[QUOTE="David Morris, post: 1140258, member: 25279"] I may have mentioned this in my introduction but many years ago I combined constant upgrade disorder with audio equipment, I stopped hearing the music for the music, I was listening to how my equipment can render the music. I would concentrate on listening to the reverberations and how well controlled they were etc. or specific instruments in the track. I still do this to a certain extent when trying to audition headphones or IEM's When I have had a few beers I forget it all and listen to the music for the sake of the music and how it makes me feel So in answer to the original question, I believe it is counterproductive to listen to the ability of equipment to accurately reproduce music and how would one know anyway whether or not the mastered music media itself is an accurate representation of what the artist played in the moment?
