I tried an experiment Copied some multi-channel FLAC files onto a computer Connected this via a HDMI cable to a Denon AVR Use JRiver after analysing the tracks to see if they contained multi-channel information (about 2/3 did) Choose Multi-channel stereo as the audio program (there are 9 varieties, but this one worked the best) There was information from the rear speakers as well as the stereo pair What put me off a bit was the levels of the different recordings varied considerably especially the rear info One track: 2L - Groven Undring, church organ and harmonica - seemed to emphasise the reverberation excessively What was very good: Vivaldi - Belezza Crudel, Recitatave and Aria from Cantata RV679. Fairly simple music
