I'll confess, I have the following biases: General: 1. Own DIY over anything.(I can,t build everything yet though) 2. Someone with a reputations DIY or cottage build. 3. Great measurements 4. Less is more 5. Vintage Speakers: 1. Electrostatic 2. Very high efficiency. (Can't have both at the moment so electrostatic it is) 3. Simplicity less drivers and less electronics(no Bose or the like) Amps: Not smart enough to have a bias between valves and solid state. 1. Power! (At the moment because of the electrostatics) 2. Class A 3. Class AB (Currently using this because my class A amp is a room heater with a fan and needs a service.) 4. Hard no to digital Sources: 1. Record players 2. Legendary/expensive arms and cartridges. (Aspirational on the cartridge side) At the moment these mostly influence what I'm drooling over. When I do get to buy stuff again I will be guided by these biases though. I'm happy with this. I don't believe that I'm in this hobby for perfect sound. I'm doing this for the awesome experience on eclectic equipment. My biases lifts certain equipment to the level of magic for me, without money being a total wet blanket to my aspirations. I admit that some of these biases doesn't guarantee that my sound will be one iota better, but they do improve MY experience. Even my experience of what I lust after is better this way. If I start to get all defensive that this is the right way, it will detract from my experience.
