[QUOTE="1200GXman, post: 1163469, member: 17884"] Some good theory that came through with recent posts. Thanks for that info which is 100% correct. Everything to do with compression ratio. The higher compression present in the combustion chamber the bigger the chance of detonation. Heat I also picked up with my previous car can cause detonation. I was informed by a reliable source who runs a Datsun 1200 with rotary turbo that currently the best fuel is Sasol according to laboratory tests done on their 95 octane which tested 97. I don't know if other brands were also tested. I still stick with my comment of if you drive a high performance car like a BMW M series, Mercedes AMG or turbo car, run the highest octane that you can buy at the pump. I doubt with modern ECU's that you will get ping/detonation but I would definitely want max performance out of the car. My father has a Volvo S60 5 cylinder turbo. The user manual also states there that highest octane must be used to have best performance from the engine. For the spanner heads on this thread, did you guys see what compression ratio the Honda S2000 engine runs at? I can just imagine how much it will try and retard the timing with 93 octane fuel.
