With the demise of HD-DVD, is anyone who was previously holding back planning to jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon shortly? If so, what players are you considering?

I just bought an Xbox 360 and, needless to say, had a long hard look at the PS3 40GB prior to that. In the end the Xbox won based on game titles available - including 2nd hand and borrowing from friends. The PS3 does have a much nicer remote and is quiet enough to use for movies (I'd never use my Xbox for that, too noisy) but there aren't even that many BD titles available currently. Browsing the list on Take 2, the only one that jumps out at me is Casino Royale.

I had the chance to compare my Pioneer DVD 585A against the PS3 40GB with standard DVDs, and while some older transfers definitely looked worse off the Pioneer DVD, with newer material such as Planet Earth I could not tell the difference. The Pioneer was running progressive scan over component video, the PS3 was upconverting to 720p via HDMI, and my TV's native resolution is 1024x768. I haven't had a chance to compare the same title on DVD against BD yet but based on the above experiment, I will definitely hold out until there are some more titles available.

The PS3 seems like the obvious choice for a BD player right now. The BD seems to be a bit of a moving target and Sony has been updating the PS3 fairly regularly - the same cannot be said of any other BD player from any manufacturer. The fact that it also plays games is a bonus :)
