[QUOTE="Shonver, post: 60238, member: 34"] I have tried to come up with a good answer for these questions but, fortunately, such a situation - as per the example - will rarely present itself. It is strangely difficult to give a definitive answer to these questions. I do, though, want to offer the following: Speakers can never be too big for the amp. Assuming the speakers have a much higher power handling capability* than the amplifier is rated for, all that will happen is that the maximum sound level achievable will be limited by the amp's output capability. If played to this level, the amplifier will clip and the sound will be distorted. The more practically useful parameter between efficiency and sensitivity is sensitivity, as per Goneten's explanation, because we can control the amplifier's voltage ouput level (with the volume control), but not the power into the speaker, as this depends on the loudspeaker's impedance, which varies with frequency. *there are many ways to interpret "big".
