I have an AT-LP120X TT with Ortofon red cartridge. It is connected to my home theater amplifier Yamaha RX-A860 which has a phono built in. So I am using this to drive the speakers and not TT built-in phono preamp (although I didn't notice any difference in output quality). The volume is always set to -20 for LP's which is quite high. Problem is, some of the old LP's gain is too low and therefore, the output is low or can't hear the song properly.
How do I overcome this problem? Will it help buying a dedicated phono amplifier? Or a phono preamp with gain controller?
