Vehicle tracker recommendation for delivery bakkie

Cape Town. Anyone care to recommend a vehicle tracker/company for our delivery vehicle? It would be nice to know exactly where our driver/bakkie is at any given time.

Cheap way to connect USB devices to iPad

I'm sure the iStore has a dongle, but hoping there is a cheap way of doing this. Old iPad, guessing 2012 or so, would like to use an apple USB keyboard and drawing pad. As far as I can see, the iPad only has a single lightning connector.

Anyone built an Onken box for Tannoy Gold 15"

I'm starting to warm to the idea of Onken style boxes for a pair of Tannoy Gold 15" drivers. Anyone here done it?

    Full stops offensive!?

Apparently it is highly offensive to end a text message with a full-stop. Passive aggressive, even hostile. WFT!

    Cheap over-ear headphones

A friend is looking for some over-ear headphones. Very much an entry-level budget of approx. R500.00. He showed me the following: https://www.takealot.com/powerworks-hpw3000-studio-closed-back-dynamic-headphones/PLID71934755/reviews/1 My take is that it looks like junk, but I may well be...

    Looking for 1uF and 2uF paper/oil capacitors

For a speaker crossover build. I have enough 6uF oil caps, but the required values, besides 6uF, are 7uF and 14uF. Looking for 6 x 1uF or 2 x 1uF and 2 x 2uF paper-in-oil capacitors. I can't afford or justify spending mega-bucks on boutique brands. Good quality vintage of Russian PIO caps...

    Booting Raspberry Pi off USB/SSD

A particular Pi project requires something more robust than the regular SD card. Booting / running off an SSD has been recommended. One way of doing this is to connect a SSD in a USB enclosure. Problem is, many of the locally available enclosures do not work - something to do with the chipset...

Boxlight LCD projector - vertical blue lines.

I was given an old Boxlight LCD projector.  In my excitement to start the show, I even bought a 2nd-hand motorized screen. The image looked great for about 30 seconds, but now there are approx. 100 vertical blue lines in the image. These are especially prominent when the scene is dark. Can...

Removing the fabric/foam from the front of headphone drivers

I like the increase resolution and clarity that result from removing the thick fabric/foam layer that sits between the drivers and one's ears. Checking out this thread: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/beyerdynamic-dt-1770-mod-thread.796360/ Any suggestions on what could be used as a thinner...

    Cheap projector screen options.

I have been given an old projector and want to 'knock-up' a quick cheap screen. How about a sheet of white hardboard?  That stuff at the back of build-in cupboards.

Not able to set static IP on my Pi

Using these instructions, which seems pretty standard: https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-static-ip-address/ When I check the Pi IP after saving the changes, it does not stick. Are there, perhaps, other things that I should be doing - like on the router?

    VCR technician - Cape Town

My old National NV-777 video cassette machine has been in storage for the last 10 years or so. Decided to give it a spin yesterday, but all is not well. Sluggish performance and it eventually chewed the tape. I imagine it need a good service / lube. Where does one take a machine like this for...

Can't access routers GUI page via ethernet.

I have  a TP-Link Archer C2 router. In the process of setting of guest accounts, parental controls etc, I need to connect to the routers webpage by Ethernet cable, as doing this by wifi is a pain as I keep on losing the connection when changing wifi names etc. Trouble is that when I connect...

    Reflex port with corner question.

I would like to build a pair of cabs for Goodmans Axiom 80 drivers. Will be based on the following: I will keep the internal volume the same, but the shape of the cabs will be changed. My question relates to the ports.  The port in the original drawing has a 90 degree bend, and is also quite...

Audio heresy? Speaker on walls or ceiling!

I have a listening room that has few usable boundary walls, so am considering some off-the-wall options. The speakers are a pair of Lowther Acousta's, which prefer wall and/or corner positioning to help with the bass frequencies. Opposite my listening position are two perfect corners - up on...

Creaky earcup on Beyer 1770 PRO

I've been enjoying these headphones for a while now, but just noticed an annoying creak on the left earcup. The outer cover of the earcup is slightly recessed into the main cup;  and if one presses lightly along the circumference of the cover it produces fairly loud creaky noise. I imagine that...

    Headphone dissatisfied: Time for planars?

I tried AKG702, Beyer DT1770 and still something is missing. Wondering if Audeze LCD2 or similar may be the answer. With speakers my best sound was a pair of Quad ESL57.
