    Advice on equipment swap

It's more around the external tweeter (separation of sounds) and the increased sensitivity (89db to 90db). Maybe not much, but I get a bit carried away with these things...  :winkwink:

    Advice on equipment swap

Hi all I have the opportunity to swap my B&W CM9s and CM Centre 2 (plus some cash) for CM10 S2s and CM Centre 2 S2, which I'm super keen to do, but I'm struggling to find comparative prices since neither seems to sell very often. On some overseas sites, the CM9s seem to go for around R15k to...

    LF: B&W CM9 Tweeter Dome

Hi - anyone happen to have one of these laying around that they would like to sell? One of mine look like a curious child has pushed it in... Thanks James

Low volume on cellphone to power amp

Hi all - please excuse my ignorance... I have an old Rotel RB-991 amp hooked up to a pair of B&W CM5s. My idea was to create a remotely controlled music room by hooking up my old android cellphone to the amp via a audio jack to 2 RCA cable, and installing Spotify on the phone. Gave it a go...

Mounting wall speakers on speaker stands

Thanks guys. I'm not very handy, though, so was hoping either someone might know of an existing option (surely this isn't THAT unique?), or knows of someone who builds these?

Mounting wall speakers on speaker stands

Hi all I have a pair of B&W DS6 S3 wall-mounted speakers. The layout of my room is such that I don't want to mount them on the wall, though. I also have a pair of speaker stands that mount bookshelf speakers (used to host my B&W CM5's perfectly). I'm struggling to find a conversion mount that...

    Insurance claim for Sony STRdn1050

Does anyone know how the insurers decide on a replacement value? I've also had my Marantz SR6003 melted by a power surge recently, and my policy apparently covers it, but it's a old amp now, and the replacement model is almost R23k. Anyone have any experience in what I should expect from my...

    AVC for equipment repair

Hi all Does anyone have any experience with AVC (http://www.avc.co.za/pages/installation/avc-repair-department.php) wrt servicing/fixing AV equipment? I want to try them because they are close by, but I haven't seen much mention of them in the forums. I need my Marantz SR6003 repaired (HDMI...

Opinions on a working 1966 Stereophone Black Box valve set

Hi My girlfriend's dad emptied out his garage the other day and found his old 1966 Stereophone Black Box valve set, with Long Play record player (plus a bunch of Long Play records). He's asked me to find out if anyone would be interested in something like this, and whether it could be sold? In...

AV Receiver taking longer to handshake lately

Unfortunately, changing the startup order of the devices doesn't seem to work, either. It may sound silly, but it's almost as though something in the AVR has to warm up first, or build up charge, or something like that. I don't suppose anyone has any more ideas/thoughts...? Thanks James

AV Receiver taking longer to handshake lately

Hi all - thanks for the responses. Nice suggestions, jvr - I'll give the power-on-in-order option a go tonight and see what happens. Splitting the video/audio outputs seems like a great idea, but I'm not running a jenny so I imagine it will turn out to just be more work having to switch sources...

AV Receiver taking longer to handshake lately

Hi all Does anyone have any experience with AV receiver handshakes? I have a Marantz SR6003 hooked up to a Samsung PS60F5500 via HDMI (output 2 as output 1 seems to have died...). Connecting into the AVR are a HTPC (HP Microserver NL36 through a HD 5450 graphics card) and a DSTV HD PVR (4...

    Old amp repairs (Rotel)

Thanks Henry - I'm picking up the amp tomorrow and will take a look. P.S. Does anyone have any good internet links on how to troubleshoot problems with and/or care for amps? I'm sure there's tons out there, but I'm kinda hoping to not have to trawl through a few hundred only to find most of...

    Old amp repairs (Rotel)

Great, thanks for the advice everyone! I'll try cleaning the amp up a bit but I'm not very clued up on these things. If that doesn't work, I'll give Nilam a shout. Moolz, I'll PM you. Thanks James

    Old amp repairs (Rotel)

Hi all I've recently sold an old Rotel RB980BX amp, which was singing great at my place. Unfortunately is seems to not have survived the drive to the buyer's place as when he plugged it in he said one channel had given up the ghost. I'm taking the amp back this evening, but now I need to figure...

XMBC media server with quick play option?

Those NUC's are pretty cute, but they require a monitor to play CDs... I want something with a front display for CDs. Maybe I'm just being ridiculous - I'll get a dedicated UD player and use my XBMC setup for soft content. Thanks for the reply!

XMBC media server with quick play option?

Hi Does anyone know of a media server capable of running XBMC (I like the way it tracks what I've watched...), but can also load up a CD without having to to wait for the OS to boot up or require a TV? And also play DVD's and Blu-rays without having to wait? Thanks James

    Finding an amp...

Coach - yip, I'm pretty keen to power most of my speakers. I currently have a 2x200w powering the stereos, but would like to relegate it to powering the surrounds and put a 3x200w for the front stage. Or, my no 1 option which I'm currently busy negotiating, get a 5x200w and sell the 2x200w...
