LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Elvis has not left the building  ;D  ;D. I'ts just not possible for me to sit infront of my pc's 24/7 (as it would appear to be possible for some here). I am waiting for Mervin and others (see thread) to get back regarding their suggestion to host a listening session at Birchwood....patience guys.

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Ok, that's it. I have explained my position, but you guys keep on hitting at me. Commenting on whether this was started for commercial content or not has absolutely nothing to do with the current thread actually. This is just another knife  >:( >:( - and I see no reason for it but sapping...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Sure guys, we can conduct "another" run in CPT. All my family is down there, so I'd love that! Please make contact with me via e-mail so that we can persue details further. But only if you guys report back to this Forum on the outcome offcourse. Even so, I still feel that we should continue...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Timber, seems as if you are the only one still willing to explore this without a "fight". I am getting sick and tired of all the aquisations. PLEASE take the lead on this and conduct the tests in whatever way you guys feel comfortable with. As I said, whether it proves anything or not is of no...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Rodney, please.  >:( There is no bias on my side. This thread has evolved naturally to what is now. I have in fact stepped away from this and offered that an independent body conduct the suggested tests (they just have to now work out how the test will be conducted) - whether their tests proves...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

OK, seeing that there is a question hanging over the head of "double blind testing", I thought it worthwhile to post this link; covering some comments by David Kay and a link to the beliefs and conclusion reached by Robert Harley of the Absolute Sound Magazine on this subject...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Please, sarcasm is not what we want now, we want cooperation.  ??? And the 5x was just an approximate; their's nothing absolute to this. Obviously if the CDs have NEVER been played/used before they will not contain any magnetism to speak of and thus not require to be demagnetised. It is with the...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

O yes, forgot to add...both new CDs will obviosuly have to have some "time" on them, so both needs to be played at least 5-times from start to end on a CD player well in advance of the test day to ensure typical magnetic build-up.

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Fine with me.  :) After every participant or after 5 plays. Just decide on a protocol and then stick to it. And don't let the CDs get mixed up somehow (they will look identical, so need to be tagged somehow). I would also support two freshly bought CDs.

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Norval, I like your suggestion as it would be nice to meet up with all the regulars again. However, for this exercise, I would feel more confortable with what Timber has suggested above. This does obviously not stop us from meeting up to say, listen to the Maestro pre-amp, etc!! Go for it...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

OK, but I cannot host this. We need an independent audience. Are there anyone out there that would be willing to coordinate this test for us?

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Any decent hifi system (not single box  ;D) would do fine. We do not need an elaborate setup or the best money can buy. The idea is to ascertain sound differences by ONLY changing one element in the system - in this case the CD - untreated and treated. Comeon guys, stop whining and get the show...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Uhm, guys, let's get back to what this is all about. Timber has suggested a means to put this issue to bed once and for all; and I have responded by saying that if you guys do wish to conduct such tests, I would be willing to make a demagnetising unit available. My view on audio tests/reviews...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

If you have an interested audience and equipment to conduct this procedure, I am willing to supply a demagnetisation unit for the tests. Just say when and where.

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Uhm, OK, thanks for agreeing! But then again...this thread is about the CONCEPT of demagnetisation and the theory behind why it brings about sonic benefits. I have elaborated on that with measured results from a manaufacturer as requested; as well as views from reviewers all over the world that...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

OK, I will post some measured results from the manufacturer. But, I know from experience by participating in this forum (sorry, guys, no offence here  ;)) that it would in all probability just be made off as "irrelevant" data or "surely it could not make an audible difference?" or something of...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

The "Manufacturer" (I'm steering away from brand names here!  ;)) is reputable for its R&D and does not release a product without the necessary proven figures (but even so, remember we've said it so many times - many human audio perceptions cannot be measured in numbers!). All products are...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

OK, here's the info on demagnetisation pasted into the thread (with no mention of any brands), seeing that the original link to it has now been removed. When does ?demagnetization? actually make a lot of sense? Demagnetizing tape heads makes sense for two reasons: tape heads are made from...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

Wow, how things can turn against oneself!  :-\ My idea by starting this thread was not market-related, but born from knowing that there are actually people out there that wish to read up more about this controversial subject and make there own conclusions (just as you have made yours)....linking...

LP/disk Demagnetisers - why they make a sonic improvement

I'm simply addressing a technical subject here. One that had been raised before (which at the time raised more questions than answers) and on which I feel new data/facts are now available to substantiate a position. I have not marketed any of my products on this forum; ever!  :(
