Kanye West's new $200 album and player combo roasting

This reviewer didn't like the player/remixer designed by kanye with some design shop called kano. https://slate.com/culture/2022/03/kanye-west-donda-2-album-review-stem-player.html

    Diagnosing power supply of SRPP

What a colossal waste of time. So something not lekker with the power supply to SRPP. 6V DC are good, but instead of 200V or whatever DC, I get 30. 167V AC going in, rails of the caps at 226. The 0.22uF cap connected to base of MPSA42 is at 226V, the 0.22uF cap connected to emitter of MJE340...

    Hissy valves in an SRPP

I'm not sure if it's new or just bothering me more, but my first gen SRPP valve pre has a lot of hiss. Valve noise? Resistors? Snakes? They're 6922 valves, so contemplating some bottle rolling to check, and just for kicks (so if anyone has some nice matched 6922s I'm up...). Any ideas where it...

Battery-backup PSU behaving weirdly with LED strips

Anyone have any thoughts what is going on here, and how to remediate? I have a largish backup power supply usually used for security systems -- 17AH battery, charger, SMPS in a big box producing 12V 5A max. The idea is to use it to power 12V LED strips for load shedding lighting. I had it set...

    Simplified system snap sharing

So I've not been super active in the  DIY space in a while. But this is what I been up to... Finally a month or two back got the active XO boards that Murray produced into play. Built as a plankie because they'll not be visible too much. The plan is to eventually stick them inside my SRPP as I...

Watchmaker or watch service in JHB

There was a place called World Time in Sandton City now gone ... to replace batteries, pressure test, servicing. Anyone have a recommendation on someone that can service a (fairly) cheap yet sentimental value Citizen watch?

Phase shift in crossover for three way

I think I'm confusing myself, but let's go. I have a three way speaker, bi-amped with LF going directly to woofer. The active crossover is "zero phase" so whatever goes to the woofer is in phase with what's going to mid/tweeter's passive crossover. Current at link to tweeter is shifted 90...

    Inverter repair - JHB

Anyone good in JHB to repair an inverter? It belongs to my folks that live in Port Edward, they took it to the supplier, who said "oh it's corrosion because it's used at the coast and it's toast and there's nothing we gonna do", which is bloody nonsense ... living in a coastal area is hardly a...

Tweaking an Olevia (AudioSource) AMP 100

I bought this little guy off the forum a couple of months back. I wanted a compact stereo amp to use in the sitting room for e-z listening (as in easy to listen to, not to listen to easy listening music  :o). On paper it seemed to fit the bill niceley.  It is mysteriously branded "Olevia"...

Mouser order - share the $60 shipping pain

I'd like to order some stuff (tweaking an Olevia (actually Audio Source) 100 amp -- couple of changes to some caps and resistors and better pots. About $70 worth of bits -- but shipping is $60. So if a couple of people want to order some stuff in JHB and split the costs... otherwise it's...

How to set down limit on Iron Guard motirosed screen

Is there a way to set a down limit? It unrolls and unrolls until a giant black section is exposed. You can stop and start it manually but it would be handy to just be able to click "down" and leave it to its glacially slow motorised pace. I can't see anything obvious ... anyone have a clue?

HyperX RAM in older PC boot-looping

Any hardware wizards out there? I bought some Kingston HyperX memory for my Win 10 PC on an older Intel DH57DD motherboard (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/50379/intel-desktop-board-dh57dd.html) that supports 1333MHz DDR3. It gets past the POST, but soon as Windows starts...

    HP Microserver N56 -- upgradeable?

I've been scratching around on the Net to see if there is a reasonable way to put a a more modern mobo and processor into the Microserver case. I like the form factor, the four slide-in drive bays... and it's paid for. Seems that it's to all practical purposes impossible (thanks HP for your...

Looking for respray specialist for cupboards

Anyone know someone in JHB that can do a high quality finish respray of kitchen cupboards with a good quality auto paint? I have a bunch of kitchen cupboards in a fairly ugly faux beach finish ... I recon taking off doors, masking fixed areas, and then respraying them in a solid colour would...

Driver repairs for older B&Ws joburg

Same old question -- driver repairs in JHB/PTA area. I searched old threads but couldn't get a clear picture of who is still in business, who is recommended. For a friend that got given them -- B&W 202i's as far as I remember. Need a surround replacement.

Local supplier of projector lamps for Panasonic PT-AE4000

Lamp is starting to go. Searching online suggests a minefield of dodgy bits and drop-ship fakely local sites. Good place to get lamps? Supposedly it's a PVIP lamp but the OEM kit also has a new dust filter.
